Transfusion in the cardiac patient

      The first priority of perioperative fluid therapy in surgical patients is to achieve an optimal filling of the heart with crystalloids and colloids. This optimizes cardiovascular function, decreases postoperative morbidity and shortens the duration of hospitalization [
