      Hypoglycemia appears to be a relatively common problem in the intensive care unit. The causes, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation of hypoglycemia are discussed. Prompt recognition and treatment of hypoglycemia are necessary to prevent significant morbidity and mortality in these patients.
